Radiation

I purchased a pocket-gamma spectrometer last week (Radiacode 102) and brought it with me to a local flea market to find some radioactive antiques! I also found a radioactive gimbaled compass in a box, but did not buy that one. Here is the processed Gamma spectrum measured with the Radiacode: ![](https://i.imgur.com/hvtTsaG.png) Photo with lights on: ![](https://i.imgur.com/MZwoxET.jpg) Radiacode placed against it: ![](https://i.imgur.com/iehaejB.jpg)

I recently found out that 10 000 Muons are hitting every square meter of Earth a minute. They are created by high energy collisions in our upper atomsphere that then fly at nearly the speed of light down to earth and survive even though they have a short half-life because of relativistic effects slowing down their decay. It's crazy to think that natural radiation can include strange unstable sub-atomic particles, not just alpha, beta and gamma radiation.

It‘s nothing compared to Keaton‘s collection but at least something. 5 Radium alarm clocks, 3 Promethium alarm clocks, 2 Radium watches and 4 Radium watch hands, of which one is in a acrylic display case. Sorry for the bad pictures. ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/25eda415-bbac-475d-bd7a-4bc160799850.jpeg) ![](https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/68a51fdc-45c0-4bb2-9d67-077d0746786a.jpeg)
