Kubuntu 'minimal install' does a full install and removes the extra packages?

So I'm installing Kubuntu on my friend's old laptop which has a slow hdd, so I decided to go with the minimal install option, only to notice that in the final screen, it's actually removing a lot of packages as indicated in the progress status. Is this intentional?
