Thoughts on Alexander Motyl?

I got recommended a book by him recently called "Turn to the right: The origins of Ukrainian nationalism". Having skim read it, it appears to be an attempt to whitewash the fascism of many Ukrainian fascist organisations (dismissing such accusations as "Soviet pamphleteer diatribes"). Looking at his other works, it seems he was a proponent of petty nationalism that lead to the dissolution of the USSR, and is a typical anti-Soviet scholar. Have any of you come across his works before, and if so, what did you make of him?
