The good old "Think of the children" argument again... This is an attack on online privacy, again. I hate it.

It is the parents responsibility to keep their kids safe. We don't ban knives either just because a child could accidentally get hurt by one. And apart from that the regulations are not even well thought out, they will not stop a determined teenager with a lot of time on their hands.

  • Should you get a COVID booster? Here are 7 things to consider.
  • HMH HMH Now 15%

The vaccine does not stop covid, it does not make you immune, it does not stop you from spreading covid and you will have to get another dose after about 3 months. And then there are possible adverse effects like myocarditis, especially for young men. All this should be considered.

There are other ways to strengthen your immune system. They should be considered too. Most people that have died due to covid have been severely ill, morbidly obese or very old. Eating healthy, getting enough exercise and making sure Vitamin D levels are sufficient will make covid much less dangerous. I much prefer that to constantly getting new boosters.

Some facts about the Gaza Strip:

    • Population: ~2.3 Million
    • Area: 365 km² (141 sq mi)
      • 41 km (25 mi) long, from 6 to 12 km (3.7 to 7.5 mi) wide
    • Population density: ~6300/km² 1

Gaza is very densely populated. In Gaza live as many people as in Houston. But Houston has an area of 1658.6 km² (640.4 sq mi). Thus Gaza has nearly five times the population density of Houston. New York City is the only city in the US with a population of more than a million and a higher population density than Gaza. 2 The tallest building in Palestine stands at 76.1 m (255 ft). 3

A little less than half of the population of Gaza is made up of children. 4

There are only three ("legal") ways in and out of Gaza:

    • Rafah Crossing into Egypt in the south
    • Kerem Shalom Crossing into Israel in the south
    • Erez Crossing into Israel in the north

Gaza has a very small port. It can only be used by small fisher boats. 5

Israel built a wall and fences around Gaza. 6

Considering that recent polls show the AfD at ~30% in some states, I doubt banning it will work. The only reasons it's gotten this big is abysmal politics by the current and former govt. I'm pretty sure banning it is only going to make things worse. And I am not at all convinced you can truly consider them ban worthy like actual Nazis, even though the current govt would very much like you to think this way.

Assuming they have a child-like mentality:

    • Why is there no massive bombardment of Ukrainian cities and infrastructure? Might as well do that for cities out of reach instead of blowing up a NPP.

  • Are there long-term myocarditis risks after Covid vaccination?
  • HMH HMH Now 25%

Scientists still don’t have a clear explanation yet for why the vaccines cause the condition, according to Dr. Paul Burton, Moderna's chief medical officer. He expects the virus’s spike protein, once produced in the cell after vaccination, may generate a reaction in the body that can cause inflammation in the heart.

“We don’t understand yet and there’s no good mechanism to explain it,” he said.

And that's the exact reason why, under normal circumstances, it takes years until you can bring a new vaccine on the market. Even more so, if said vaccine is based on a new technology that's never been widely tested on humans before.

  • HMH HMH Now 100%

No, I just think they shouldn't do the kind of patent hogging that we observe now and make instructions to produce the vaccine freely available. Like that we can have healthy competition on who is able to produce the vaccine most efficiently. I am pretty sure this would drive pricing down a lot.

  • HMH HMH Now 25%

So much text and so little content. So apparently it's normal not to test new vaccines for transmission. My problem is that media, politicians and even scientist have spun the narrative that the vaccines are very good at preventing infections and transmission, see for example: https://youtu.be/jDtUWXOmLLg?t=400. Many decisions have been made based on that assumption. And that is wrong.

millions of people quit the workforce due to long covid

Do you have a source for that, that number sounds way too high to me?

Yeah lets just keep letting it rip and have our immunity systems get so wrecked that theres now a second pandemic ongoing (monkeypox)

Monkeypox is not a pandemic and they way it currently is, will not become a pandemic.

What do you mean by immune system getting wrecked? Are the vaccines not able to prevent that? Also there is natural immunity, you most likely won't get as sick if you are exposed to the virus or a similar variant of it for a second time.

Tbh, the only alternative to letting it rip now is something like this:

    Zero COVID-19

Nobody ever gets to leave their ~2m^3 house.

Do you know any good apps (+ server if applicable) for group voice chats over mobile data? I know there is mumble but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be an iOS app. AFAIK mumble offers excellent compression as the audio codec used is opus and probably does not require a lot of bandwidth. Are there alternatives or is there a usable app for iOS that I just have not found yet?

Of course the virus itself won't disappear but hopefully all measures limiting our daily lives. Personally I think Omicron is the last variant of concern and as many countries have agreed on it's fortunately not dangerous enough for restrictions to make sense anymore. I don't think a new more dangerous variant will emerge. If it did, I'd think that to be rather suspicious.
