- Just tried it and while I can take a selfie, it does limit how much of the background I can capture, so sometimes I'll have to unhook it.
- Yeah, I have to unhook it, that's fair. Not hard to do, but an extra step.

Honestly, it's born out of a philosophical idea that smartphones are the modern day equivalent of pocket watches: a device we carry with us to stay in sync with the rest of the world. (Worth noting I don't own a smart watch.) So your points are mostly valid, but it's my special kind of crazy.
