I'd say it's more tragic than cruel. In my mind, cruelty requires conscious decision, something the universe is incapable of. The universe isn't inflicting anything, it is simply happening.

I'm not implying your worries are not valid, but I've never understood this perspective. From my point of view, an uncaring universe is freeing. We have no responsibility to any great power, and are free to choose our own path.
EDIT: I decided to go with Virtual Box since Hyper-V just doesn't seem to work on my PC. Thank you everyone for the recommendations!

Sounds like my experience with Manjaro lol

Definitely. I kinda wish they decided to also do Opposing Force and Blue Shift, but there are other teams working on that

I'm a big fan of Crowbar Collective's vision of Xen, and while yeah its pretty long, it does make it more memorable than the original Xen imo

I personally enjoy Boogie Belgique. As an American it's highly likely that no one on this side of the Atlantic would know about them if I asked a random person lol
I've heard a few people on here are starting their own personal instances so they can federate independently with different instances without relying on a larger, third-party instance. If I wanted to do this, would I need to own an actual server, separate from my PC?

I believe it would be a valid concern, if those V-8 engines were all designed and manufactured by the same company. Sure, one could modify it's design to suit their needs, including removing things they may not like about the base design, but that can't be sustainable when those changes won't be supported by mechanics, and when companies using those cars forbid the use of cars with modified engines.
I believe it does its job well, implementing a vision for Half-Life in a modern engine, with pretty well-made assets and fun game play.

Currently on the $1/month patron tier for lemmy. Hope it helps the devs!

That's what I did actually! I thought that would bypass any weirdness, but looks like it still did that.

Well, looks like I'll stick to uploading to Lemmy directly then. Thanks!

I know that's a feature, I just also heard that we should avoid uploading directly to the instance to avoid clogging it up. Is this actually an issue, or an overreaction?
I posted a pic of my cat to a cat community here, but it added this whole paragraph about "if you like cats, blah blah blah come see more on imgur" in an uneditable box on my page. Is there any way to remove/prevent it?

On a slightly related note, how do I make the post show a thumbnail, like other posts I see here? I see some other imgur submissions with thumbnails, but mine doesn't for some reason.
