My static image issue was due to an error in the root specification of the static route in nginx, plus I needed to give 755 permissions to several directories, in case anyone else hits this issue:
sudo chmod 755 /home/piefed
sudo chmod 755 /home/piefed/pyfedi
sudo chmod 755 /home/piefed/pyfedi/app
sudo chmod 755 /home/piefed/pyfedi/app/static
sudo chmod 755 /home/piefed/pyfedi/app/static/images
This is in the "Hello World" category. In preparation for opening my own PieFed server, today I got a test server running, piefed.lerman-development.com. This is my first post from my test instance to a remote instance. I hope it works. Apologies for the test post. I'm still working out some issues (PieFed logo doesn't appear, can't enable markdown editor) and I still need to do more configuration, but I think it's getting there. I also don't know how anything is supposed to work, which makes testing a bit difficult. Eventually, I plan to bring feddit.online back as a PieFed instance (it used to be a KBIN instance). My user name on pifed.social is Jerry@Piefed.social.
