Been iterating a bit on my revxlp design, and a frequent request is for a 10u/"5 col" version. Finally did a build of the first protos, and it's working great! I want to do a few tweaks for the newly added ability to use the single color LEDs for either per -key or bottom backlighting, once that's done I'll formally release the changes. This particular build was half soldered by our elder daughter, and she fully assembled post-soldering including keycap selection. I love the look she chose, which she said "reminded her of a sunset over the water" * 10u revxlp * XIAO RP2040 running ZMK * Keycaps: * MBK: dyes from MKU and factory dyes from LowProKB * Asymplex convex 1u artisans for the bottom row * Choc whites * MJF nylon case print from JLC

    Now 100%

Not sure why we don't see them used more. For designs that are minimizing soldering work, they're "one more thing to learn to solder", and there's lots of folks mimicking designs they see using the standard "standoffs with screws on each end" that it perpetuates.

For the upcoming LDSA keycaps that have lower skirts, you need to have a "clean" plate or you get the skirt striking the screw head. I imagine that might motivate more folks to explore this approach.

  • Reposting to this new community! The revxlp design is a refactor of the revlp PCB by Cyril that: * Uses XIAO footprint controllers, many wired options like XIAO RP2040 or wireless with the XIAO BLE. * Adds 2x1u middle thumb option, retains 1x2u support there as well. * Includes a 3dp shelf case option, using solder nuts for assembly to retain clean top plate with no screw heads visible. revxlp is OSH, repo at https://gitlab.com/lpgalaxy/revxlp This particular build in the pic is: * Choc sunsets * MCC keycaps * Funky rp2040 + mini OLED that's close enough to a XIAO footprint to be compatible.
