My computer crashed as I was writing a response. In short:

I think fedi existing and having the userbase it has is “victory” enough. Capitalism and fascism push us to think “winning” and “success” are the greatest thing to aspire to. To “win” over capitalism and fascism will require an unlearning and disavowal of those aspirations.

I’m just thinking about all the reply guys that come here defending autoplag, specifically with this idea:

“GPT is great when I want to turn a list of bullet points into an eloquent email”

Hey, you butts, just send the bullet points! What are you, a high schooler? Nobody has time for essays, much less autoplagged slop.

Personally i’ve never heard of a moral panic over GPS, though if pressed I could manufacture some. So that one seems like something dreamed up by the author. Would love to be proven wrong!

it’s easy to imagine a world where the people working on AI that are also convinced about AI safety decide to shun OpenAI for actions like this. It’s also easy to imagine that OpenAI finds some way to convince their feeble, gullible minds to stay and in fact work twice as hard. My pitch: just tell them GPT X is showing signs of basilisk nature and it’s too late to leave the data mines

    > On the hottest and coldest days, when demand for electricity peaks and the price rockets, the bitcoin miners either sell power back to providers at a profit or stop mining for a fee, paid by ercot. Doing so has become more lucrative than mining itself. In August of 2023 Riot collected $32m from curtailing mining and just $8.6m from selling bitcoin. Archive link: https://archive.md/O8Cz9

Kind of sharing this because the headline is a little sensationalist and makes it sound like MS is hard right (they are, but not like this) and anti-EU. I mean, they probably are! Especially if it means MS is barred from monopolies and vertical integration.

TIL that television program “The Boys” has an in universe cryptocurrency as a satire of, well, cryptocurrency in general but also specifically that time when DJT was selling NFTs. [They occasionally tweet](https://xcancel.com/VoughtIntl/status/1812170121881727002#m) about it. It has a listing on the “BSCScan” crypto tracker under the name “VTC” so someone might have actually minted it? It might surprise some of you that I have no way of telling the realness of such a thing.

Uncritically sharing this article with naive hope. Is this just PR for a game? Probably. Indies deserve as much free press as possible though.

Refreshing on mobile logs you out sometimes

Not sure how much needs to be said here. Sometimes I come back to a tab with a.s open and refresh, then get logged out. I’m using chrome on iOS but this might be reproducible on other browser/platform combinations.
