Please don't repeat the same mistake as Linux

As a linux user if 25+ years, you're off on a bad foot with me from the beginning.

The base idea of ActivityPub is that we can't let things get too big, because that draws attempts to takeover the userbase. There are already organized efforts beginning on Mastodon to mass defederate from any server (maston.social) that get's to 51% of the total userbase because it would be an existential threat to all of ActivityPub if that happened. You're basically asking starfleet to please ignore the prime directive.

  • How do y'all feel about writing things by hand?
  • Bishma Bishma Now 100%

I've gotten bad writers cramp within just a few minutes of writing since the 90s. Using the alternative pencil grip (where it rests between my index and middle fingers) helped me get through college, but I also opted for typing as much as possible. Now handwriting feels unnatural, to an extent.

  • can we like just not use bots to repost a bunch of stuff from reddit here?
  • Bishma Bishma Now 100%

lemmit.online is one I know of. Each community is a reddit board. It pulls the subs via RSS so there are no comments, just the original post.

I think the lemmy instance that's only for reddit reposts is a great way to go about it. You always know what you're in for if you sub anything there, and it's not taking up space on other servers.

  • Thoughts on RHEL going closed source ?
  • Bishma Bishma Now 100%

I've been avoiding all things Red Hat since they became RHEL for this reason. I saw something like this coming, I just didn't expect it to take 20 years...

Now I've been using Debian-based distos on all my servers and desktops for so long that I'm not using Fedora, Rock, Amazon Linux, or CentOS by choice anyway.

I knew we were in for something like this when the Red Hat first became REHL. Even avoided Amazon Linux due to the lineage. But I have to admit that it took longer than I though it would.

Interesting. I got the opposite impression, that Kbin is friendlier and has a nicer UI (for the most part). I ended up moving from lemmy.world because of it.

  • Bishma Bishma Now 100%

Doesn't apply to me. Pretty sure Tom Baker was my first Doctor (via PBS reruns). Of the pre-2005 series Jon Pertwee was my favorite.

When nuWho started I was there from the start with Eccleston, but Tennant is my favorite.
