I don't think it's at his expense? The idea is that the deceased and his widow were in love and would value each other more than money:

‘This is so nice, and I appreciate it, but I’d much rather have my husband.’

whereas he claims that some people in the audience would be thrilled to trade their spouses for money.

Hate trump but I think RawStory is misrepresenting this as they do much else.

Here is the reporting for the Guardian, a mpre legitimate source of news:

Then, recalling a meeting with Comperatore’s widow, Helen, he made a risky attempt to find humour in the tragedy. “So they’re going to get millions of dollars but the woman, the wife, this beautiful woman, I handed her the cheque – we handed her the cheque – and she said, ‘This is so nice, and I appreciate it, but I’d much rather have my husband.’ Now, I know some of the women in this room wouldn’t say the same.”

As dinner guests erupted in laughter, Trump quipped: “I know at least four couples. There are four couples, Governor [Abbott], that I know and you’re not one of them. At least four couples here would have been thrilled, actually.”

I absolutely agree. Almost every RawStory piece I see is pretty garbage and the exact type of nonsense and same wanton disregard for fact that infuriates me about the Right's media ecosphere.

    Therapy.

Your analysis of your own interactions seems wildly off. I would talk to a professional. You seem fairly young so if your parents have extended benefits, they may still cover you.

I cancelled prime when they first introduced ads. But the delivery fees without prime, damn. I think I'd pirate shows if I got prime but I'm pretty sure that just makes them think they should invest in fewer shows. And damned if, pre ads, prime didn't have a lot of my favourites (boys, invincible, end of the expanse etc.)

What a ramble. I'm just torn.

It's more that our reacting to everything is exactly what he wants.

An independent or swing voter (the kind whom the Left needs in order to win the election) is not going to read this headline and think trump is actually going to institute the Purge. Instead, they'll take this as "the media blowing trump out of proportion again. Pro ably can't trust them, better do my own research." Which plays directly into donald's hands.

It's like, did you ever bug a younger sibling? The easiest thing to do would be something minor that would make them over react and mom and dad would get pissed about the over reaction and forget the original issue. In this case, donald is poking the media so they over react and announce donald echoes fascist rhetoric or whatever else, putting off independent voters.

  • What makes you think modern hysteria about unprecedented times is overstated and things around the world will continue on as normal well into the distant future?

Very little as I disagree with the things continuing on.

We made it through the Cold War, but as any student of history will note, barely.

This has, I think, given us a false sense of confidence and it's like the drunk driver who claims that because they survived last night they will do so again tonight.

I don't 100% know things will go wrong but I do know that many different countries are A) pursuing nuclear weapons B) entering very politically unstable times and C) are just about to start hitting serious consequences as a result of climate change.

America went from the richest country in the world to the richest country in the world, freaked out and elected trump. How crazy will other, nuclear armed, countries get when food and water become serious issues?

There's of course a good chance we pull through, drunk drivers tend to survive or the issue would've self corrected long ago. But I dislike being forced to participate in a global game of Russian roulette.

Almost everyone agrees there should be more compromises in politics. So I'm curious, how would that play out? While I love the policy debates and the nuances, most people go for the big issues. So, according to the party platforms/my gut, here's what I'd put as the 3 for each party: Democrats: Abortion rights, gun control, climate change. Republicans: Immigration, culture war (say, critical race theory in schools or gender affirming care for minors) , trump gets to be president. (Sorry but it really seems like a cult of personality at this point.) Anyway, here's the exercise: say the other side was willing to give up on all three of their issues but you had to give up on one of your side's. OR, you can have two of your side's but have to give up on the third. Just curious to see how this plays out. (You are of course free to name other priorities you think better represent the parties but obviously if you write "making Joe Pesci day a national holiday" as a priority and give it up, that doesn't really count.) Edit: The consensus seems to be a big no to compromise. Which, fair, I imagine those on the Right feel just as strongly about what they would call baby murdering and replacing American workers etc. Just kind of sad to see it in action. But thanks/congrats to those who did try and work through a compromise!

Having large numbers of people starve to death seems like a pretty damning indictment of a system. But I dunno, maybe I'm overly attached to food?

Listened to Billie Jean while cleaning, wondered what the all time playlist might be. I imagine Kanye, Clapton, Pink Floyd, James Brown, Ike Turner all make the cut with MJ but I'm curious what Lemmy comes up with!

Kind of amazing. In my head this is basically saying "we can't protect people in parts of downtown Vancouver and rather than change that, it may just be easier to abandon the area.

So, what do we do now? Keep the lotto line, see if Lindholm can centre Mikheyev and someone (like Hoglander?) Keep Miller, Brock n Suter together and see what Petey/Lindholm/Mikheyev can do? I'm just so excited.
