  • I continued with Episode 3 of Alan Wake today. I took quite a few photos, as the free cam mode i feel like really let me explore the game. The primary screenshot i picked was of the FBI helicopter, as with the freecam i felt like it allowed me to get an up close angle of the helicopter i wouldn't normally see. ![A menu with different hotdogs](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/cadfe712-605b-43b1-b921-0930ac7260d5.png) I thought this menu was a neat attention to detail, as in episode 1, Carl Stucky mentions this is one of his voice lines. Specifically, this one: > "Paul makes the best hot dogs in the state! Belly Buster is the best no contest. Monster dog... is second best". I think it's cool that this attention to detail was added. I find it fascinating that i'm finding new things like this even so many playthroughs in. ::: spoiler spoiler it's also cool because Paul is also the guy at start of Episode 3 that shows you to roses trailer ::: ![A man standing in a radio room](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/146f0278-06a4-4256-9fcc-98fc20ab1f8c.png) I also took a screenshot of Pat Maine, as during my playthrough i remembered why he's one of my favorite characters. I find him very fun to listen to on his radio show, and i'm hoping he appears in the sequel. ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/ece7afc0-e055-400d-9ec9-a02a44673f62.png) This screenshot i discovered that the Freecam is buggy while i was exploring out of bounds with it. when i returned to Alan he clipped through the ground and fell into the void and died. I thought it was funny and grabbed a screenshot right before i fell into the void. ![A Chair out in the woods](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/2974cd29-6d02-4a59-8dec-d069ad676033.png) While wandering around in the daytime i also stumbled across this chair in the woods sitting on a cliff. It had a thermos in it, but the placement of it felt very abstract to me. I'm almost wondering if it's a reference to something, but if it is, then it escapes me.

Nightmare though, at least for me, isn’t as difficult as I expected it to be. It’s a nice challenge up from Normal mode I’ve been making my way through and cleaning out my Backlog. I have over 250 games I need to play. So I try and stick with just one and work through it

  • (Actually) Day 78 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots
  • MyNameIsAtticus MyNameIsAtticus Now 100%

Gameplay wise, I think I prefer Alan Wake 1/American Nightmares Much More with the battery management and controls. Having to keep an eye on it like that instead of just being able to go “oh. I have 3 flashes left”. Story wise I don’t think I could pick a favorite though I love how II added to the story, at least as far as I got

    2
  • I did Episode 2 of Alan Wake today. The screenshot is of the sawmill in the park. My assumptions were right about it ramping up in difficulty on nightmare. I found myself dying a lot more in this episode, and enemies are bullet sponges I feel like. Rusty alone took up about 3 clips of headshots. I think it may have been a lot harder if I didn’t use actual strategy (saving ammo by running away, not always hard pressing the flashlight to aim, and using the flares to chokepoint areas to escape, etc.). Overall though I found the difficulty a fun challenge, especially since I usually play on Normal Mode. I ended up taking a detour and also collecting all the Manuscript pages. I’m hoping to wipe out a good chunk of the Achievements and finally 100%. Something that has evaded me in all my past play throughs.

The original. The Remaster looks impressive except everyone has bug eyes and it bothers me. Also I can only get it through Epic afaik, so I’d rather stick with the original where I know it’s guaranteed to work

  • MyNameIsAtticus MyNameIsAtticus Now 100%

I found after the first episode it becomes much less horror and far more Thriller (if that makes sense). I don’t believe it ever relies on cheap tricks like in your face jump scares to scare you, so a lot of the thrill comes from the action. The atmosphere definitely adds to it though

I like to keep journals for my game which is (part of) what helps me keep track of all my games. Though, at your suggestion I might hold off, especially with how I forgot how short the first game is (I can probably clear an episode a day, unless nightmare mode suddenly ramps up in difficulty, which I wouldn’t be surprised if it does)

  • Today’s Game is Alan Wake. I finally got a chance to finish Chapter 1 on nightmare mode. It was surprisingly easy. If you look at my ammo you’ll notice I still have a ton of Shotgun rounds. That’s because I conserved Ammo and fled when I could, hoping to use it in the fight against Stucky. Turns out though, Stucky went down in a couple Flare Gun Shots and took all the other Taken with him. I also got stuck wandering around in the woods for a while, as it turns out I took a wrong turn. Those woods are like a fucking maze. The photo I chose for today was of the Gas Station. It felt appropriate as the End of Chapter 1, since that’s where I chose to end my gaming session for today. I’m going to continue with Chapter 2 tomorrow hopefully though, as it turns out I still have my Alan Wake II save from when I thought I deleted it because it ate my Steam Deck’s battery alive and I’m a few chapters into that, so I’d like to make parity with them before playing parallel (assuming I don’t end up changing my mind).

Oh yeah. Now that I mention it I think I remember that. There’s an Alan Standee near it too I think. Interesting to think they were at least that far planned ahead with the DLCs. I always assumed they were a Post Release decision

Have fun with the replay btw! I may be biased but the series is one of the greatest imo

I’ve played a bit of Alan Wake II (I had to drop it on launch because it ate through my battery and I couldn’t fit it in), so I’m aware how different the gunplay is. Though I have to say I think I much more prefer the Jank, it has character (though American Nightmare has my favorite controls by far. They feel like a refined version of Alan Wake I’s)

As for the ending of Alan Wake 1 spoiling AW2 this is actually my 4th play through (about. I lost count by this point) so I’m not too worried about spoiling anything because ive already seen the ending a bunch of times

    3
  • Today's game is Alan Wake. Both in preparation for Halloween and my heart's one desire to play Alan Wake II, I am replying through the first one again on nightmare difficulty. What i'm thinking i'll do though since i'm feeling a little impatient to get to AW2 is Play it parallel to the Second one since i've played through both AW1 and AWAN 4 times in the past. So i'll do one chapter of AW1 and then one chapter of AW2. I'm still thinking this through though I may have gotten a little out of control with the screenshots though after i discovered the built in free cam, as instead of my usual 10-20, i took 80 in just the opening section. So I figured i'd dump a few extras here today since i won't get a chance to reuse them again. I also got explorative with it once i realized there wasn't a range and i could go anywhere with it (you'll see more of that in the second section) ![Alan and his Magic Spinning Flashlight](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/67083067-286a-435c-97cf-7cc298d8f214.png) >Alan and his Magic Spinning Flashlight ![The Dorky Deer Float](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/f2cc8b3c-c5c2-4a22-9df7-aea001522def.png) > The dorky deer float i saw ![An interesting building i saw](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/fa6b7453-629b-40e1-80a2-b8cf2492f9f9.png) > I screenshotted this building as i realized that i don't think i ever get to see a proper look at it, for how much detail it has. the only other time we're on this side of bright falls is at night during combat. ![This kitchen had a surprising amount of depth](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/b5831d14-fff0-4405-922f-2c8f95370e62.png) > This kitchen had a surprising amount of depth for not being able to go back here ## This is where i got a little explorative with the camera and spent a large portion of my playtime exploring just unseen things: ![The entire backhalf of the lodge is rendered in (mostly) full textures despite not being able to see it from the first chapter. I try to avoid posting anything that’s a major spoiler (so a lot of my posts are “here’s X characters” or “here’s a landscape shot of Y location”) and I leave the spoilers too the text so if someone who will be spoiled sees it they can see it and go “oh. That’s a spoiler. I better stop reading”. I’d use the built in spoiler button by for whatever reason my client doesn’t like to register that I press it and typing out the text spoilers by hand is a lot to remember for me.

It has a video cutscene that’s similar, But it is very disappointing and bare compared to New Vegas. You get either 1 of 3 video cutscenes depending on if you sided with the institute or someone else (and the players gender), then next 3 are always the same, then the final one changes based on your gender. Really simple. We don’t get any sort of cutscene telling us what happened after to companions, or summarizing quests. It’s really disappointing, at least to me.

  • Today’s game is New Vegas, and it also marks the end of New Vegas for me. For the screenshot I originally considered doing my ending slideshow, but I thought that might 1) contain too many spoilers (though I doubt there’s many people that haven’t played it) and 2) make for too long of a post as I got almost all the slides. So instead I’ll briefly recap some of it in the post. For my screenshot I selected a Screenshot of the other side of the Dam. It’s a very basic screenshot. But I like it because it’s not an angle I got to see often and I think it shows the scale of it well and it’s like a trophy saying “I got here” since you can’t get to this side until the end of the game. For the Recap: I did the maddening Sunset Sasparilla Quest (I hope whatever employee came up with that is happy), I got all the companions, and I played 30 games of Caravan. Then I went onto the Second Battle of Hoover Dam (for the NCR). I have to say for how tiny the game is they do an amazing job of making of making it actually *feel* like a battle. Between all the explosions and action going on I found it easy to get swept away by the battle that I’d forget that there were only maybe 10 other soldiers in the room with me. I brought Cass and ED-E with me, though sadly I didn’t beat ED-E’s main story so he’s lost to the wasteland after the game. I negotiated for peace at almost every opportunity, so the Brotherhood and Boomers helped, while the Great Khans fled (I figured they wouldn’t survive a battle against the Legion). The followers didn’t side with them sadly though. I tried to set it up where everyone benefited (Except the legion obviously. They weren’t winning in this situation). I also wanted to bring up the slideshow, as I really enjoyed it, and I’m a bit bummed now that Fallout 4 didn’t do something like that. This isn’t a essay interpretation by any means and this could be me misreading it because I’m almost knocked out NyQuill and a Fever right now, but I personally felt like it kind of changes the series’s motto (“War, War Never Changes”) depending on your actions, as it changes the context of it. For example the NCR ending I got where almost everyone came out on the positive it felt much more like it was saying “War Doesn’t change, but it can bring about change”. While with Yes Man Ending I got (I want and quickly did that after for the achievement) I felt like it was a much more dystopian “War will never change”. I felt this is kind of parallel to what Ulysses adds to the motto at the end of Lonesome road (“Men do, through the roads they walk”), because this interpretation is brought on by the “road” the player (as in from our perspective) walks through the game. Like I said though, NyQuill and Fever, so I could be completely misreading this right now. Anyways, I also mentioned I did the Yes Man ending for the achievement. So here’s a Bonus picture of Yes Man because I actually really enjoyed him too: ![Yes Man on a big ass monitor](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/402991bd-034e-42f6-a00c-36dc3a670172.jpeg)

I considered it (I did the same for Dead Money for both of Elijah’s Achievements) but I’m planning on wrapping my way through again to get achievements for different damage types anyways. I figured doing a unarmed based build would be far easier than going around punching things with 25 in unarmed

    2
  • Today’s game is New Vegas. I’m cleaning up some things before beating completing the story. Namely achievements so I don’t have to do as many on my next round trip. This I took when I was going to do the Talent Pool quest in the Ace. I figured it was going to be a quick, 10 minute ordeal. Really easy since I had almost maxed out everything. Only, I forgot that The Tops casino hates me, so I am locked out of the quest as far as I know. I fought my way into The Aces anyways on the off chance I could start the quest regardless and the room was empty except for a trigger happy barkeep I missed that Rose of Sharon Cassidy (who I also picked up today and is now my new favorite companion) one shot and jump scared me with the sound. I have 17 achievements left after this before I end the game, one of which I may have to drop since It requires me to get kicked out of all the casinos and just remembered I am still locked out of the Tops. I got what I think is the hardest out of the way (The Warheads achievement) but the Star Bottle Caps quest has me a bit worried. So I may postpone that for whenever I play again.

Today's game is Fallout New Vegas. I was stuck at home all day and laid in bed playing through the entirety of Lonesome Road (wouldn't have been possible without the Steam Deck!). I got a ton of Screenshots, so I decided that I would just share multiple photos ![The text Lonesome road on a stone wall](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/5185b90a-1265-4083-abfc-c2eae6de5fb8.jpeg) This one I took on my way into The Divide. Just like with Dead money, it seemed appropriate. ![ED-E in the container](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/f74bc22b-e577-4b17-93f1-b81b93751791.jpeg) This is a screenshot I took of ED-E right before I freed them. I have to say, for having spent so little time with them, the ending made me kind of sad. They were very entertaining and I like the conversations with them. ![A photo of a missile in the sky above Ashton](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/0782a653-4cbb-439c-867e-f2fadd4cc2a2.jpeg) This is a screenshot I took of the missile as it was launched above Ashton shortly before crashing down. I have to say the journey here was hell because I had to fight 4 deathclaws. I ended up using Med-X and Psycho along with the Red Glare and spamming rockets in their direction. I spent nearly an hour trying to kill them (sometimes they'd kill me and sometimes I'd accidentally walk backwards into a hole in the ground) ![The text "Everyone is Gone" written on a brick wall](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/d1361bac-d2da-4e5c-9825-8e920bc95e04.jpeg) This screenshot was taken just because I thought it looked neat. I don't really have any story behind it besides that. I will note that it stood out a lot more to me than the others though, as I feel like a lot of the other graffiti that wasn't obviously written by Ulysses was just random things like "Smile". ![Night time in The Divide](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/95e3181d-e624-4360-ab39-994f9ed7ab8c.jpeg) I took this screenshot on the final stretch of my road. I used a stealthboy and sneak attacked all the scorched men along the way. I also stopped and picked up the veteran riot armor, though sadly it didn't last long with its durability so I need to repair it soon. ![My character looking down a scope](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/d50ba4ae-1b21-4459-baa7-beb02b795de0.jpeg) I took this screenshot while fighting some scorched men. I thought it looked cool from the side profile I got and wanted to share it. I got the sniper rifle from the Veteran Ranger, and I used it for most of the rest of my journey. It felt appropriate since I was taking his armor, I may as well pay respects and use all that he had instead of just picking at what I wanted. ![A missile silo](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/b0a7854d-7082-40f5-9e2c-a300b53573e5.jpeg) This is right before the final confrontation. I detonated all the Nukes in the area right after this screenshot (Though, I'm missing 10 so I'll have to go back and find those for the achievement) and prepared myself for the final fight. ![A photo I took of Ulysses](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/9ff7d578-8744-4029-aab8-7950541bea5b.jpeg) I ended up sparing Ulysses by passing the NCR faction check and the 90 Speech check. We fought together to against the scorched men. The fight was fun. For as simplistic as FNV AI can be sometimes it did a good job of making it feel far more epic and cinematic. I ended up sacrificing ED-E to stop the Nuke, as I'm doing a morally good playthrough and I was avoiding spoilers so I didn't know if I letting it launch at someone would have consequences outside of the faction I targeted. I came back after the slideshow and just sat with him for a bit and looked at The Divide. I listened to his final message and talked to him, before heading back. It made me happy though to know that ED-E was transferred back to the Mojave model though, as I was surprisingly sad about it. As soon as I got back I went and activated ED-E at the Mojave Express. I also did some progress towards misc. achievements and getting endings for everything. I picked up Raul, Veronica, Arcade Gannon, and did Rex's quest. while in Jacobstown I was planning on picking up Lily but I can't remember how to get her as a companion.

I went back to Fallout New Vegas today. I’m hoping to wrap it up before I start to miss the game and so I can move onto either FF 7 Remake or Alan Wake II. Unfortunately I caught something last night and I wasn’t in the mood to start Lonesome Road, so I went back and grabbed an achievement I missed in Old World blues and also to sell off some more of the gold. *Turns out* I missed getting all the personalities for the Sink. So I went back and did that since I *thought* it would be easy. I ended up running out of ammo fighting scorpions though and was lazy and decided to just sprint past them and tank the shots. Somehow I didn’t die from it, and managed to grab the last 4-ish modules. I also had to go by Higgs Village for one, and was creeped out by it more compared to last time. I think it’s because I slowed down to appreciate it. Anyways, I got the Toaster up and running and I have to say it’s my favorite of the personalities. I wish I had one irl. So I picked a screenshot I took of my conversation with it for today’s screenshot I hope to tomorrow to get over what I caught and start lonesome road. If not I may just start it anyways though because I don’t want to put it off too long before I fall out of the mood for New Vegas.

Today’s game is the very First Lego Batman. I’m taking a break from Fallout New Vegas so I don’t speed through the whole thing and decided to relax after a 5 Hour Coding Marathon for a class with this. The Game is Fallout New Vegas. I finally beat Dead Money. Just like how I started it I decided this would be an appropriate screenshot to end with. I ended up taking off with the gold after killing Elijah the first time for the achievement(Took him out using some C4 I planted and detonated on him). It took me a while but I eventually got it by dropping the gold in front of the door, Talking to Elijah, grabbing the gold while the door is opening, and making a sprint for the center stairs and hugging the wall around into the lift. I took the gold to the sink in the Big MT and sold a bar to the table there. I think I have enough gold to last a while. Overall I really enjoyed this DLC. I’m going to pause a little bit on New Vegas though and spend some time on multiplayer games with friends so I don’t speed through Lonesome Road and the rest of the Main Story though

Today’s game is Zomboid. I’m finding it hard to let go of Dead Money (fully intended). Me and my friend continued the story of Cable and Jerry tonight instead. We camped out in this house we found, made some steak, and I went searching for a car. I was jumped by maybe 10 zombies outside a police station and managed to find the key and get in and loot it. So we’re set on guns for now. I also found a Ranger Truck to drive, but on my way back my friend got bit. I had to put him down and he respawned. I walked to the other side of town because the truck was low on gas and we bumped into each other when I was searching for a car to pick him up in. We went on a brief walk through town trying to find a gas can to siphon gas. We didn’t find one but we *did* find a Van with a key in it (had to break the window to get at it though) and a Van with a full tank. I used bottles to Siphon gas out if the one with a tank and we started the car and drove home from that little adventure. (Bonus pic of me standing over My Friend/Jerry’s Son Cable’s Corpse after putting him down (he put his clothes away so he would be able to find them after respawning)) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/27c9a399-3e87-402c-b133-5776520a2a95.jpeg)

I chose to Merge Dog and God, I *was* going to spare Dean but I told him about the collars instead of cooperating when we first met so he didn’t want to help me (I got the holograms for the dick though). Tomorrow I’m going to finish the DLC. I might take a brief brake after that to play some more casual games (Sea of Thieves, Red Dead Online, etc.) with friends and then tackle Lonesome Road and then the Battle of Hoover Dam

Today’s game is Modded Minecraft. I took a brief break from Fallout New Vegas because some friends asked me to setup (and play) a Modded Minecraft server with them due to me being the only computer guy and this was the base I setup. I’m hiding underground from a Dragon from the Ice and Fire mod that was chasing me until I can construct ICBMs to launch at it or someone else can kill it. We’re going to ignore my hunger because one of the mods fucked up vanilla mob spawns and I have to fix it tomorrow.

Today’s game is Fallout New Vegas. I completed the Gala event right before I stopped for today (it took almost an extra hour because I soft locked somehow right before dropping God off). After setting it off I looked down into the courtyard and saw how many of the ghost people I’d have to fight. I’m dreading that. Tomorrow I hope to either complete the DLC or get close to it.

After rescuing Christine earlier tonight, I dragged God all the way back and made him pose with the rest for a group photo. So far I’m enjoying Dead Money and its creepy atmosphere. Once I start to get adjusted to something, I feel like it throws another one my way which is really entertaining and keeps me on my toes

I’m still working my way through New Vegas. I assembled the crew tonight in Dead Money. I have found the ghost people pretty easy to deal with. I think I may be over leveled for it and stat dumping into guns definitely helped. The hologram guards freaked me out a little despite knowing how to beat them. After rescuing Christine I dragged God all the way back here and made him pose for a group photo.

I don’t have any long stories for this one. This screenshot just felt appropriate for the DLC

Game is Still Fallout New Vegas (Almost Done! I just have to do Lonsome road after Dead Money and then Hoover Dam). I went ahead and started Dead Money. I don’t have any long stories attached to this one, but this screenshot felt appropriate regardless

I beat the robo-scorpion and talked to Mobius. I ended up downing some mentats and a lab coat and convincing the Scientists that I was Mobius so they wouldn’t break out. I think my next plan is to gather Stimpaks and then head onto the Sierra Madre
