If Palestine got to have its own recognized (by everyone including Israel) and sovereign state, what other different current nation would it most likely resemble?

Thats a very interesting case example. I will have to learn more about Turkey, altho it seems like the Democratic part is doing a lot of heavy lifting relative to what I've heard about Turkey being like Hungary in terms of democratic realities. It is impressive that they don't have the usual antihomosexuality laws and hangups other Muslim nations have.

Then again, they probably couldn't be part of EU with something like that on the books, no?

Because the incentives were there for people to take the risk. If there's no or lesser incentive to make the dangerous trip to the point you're likely to return with nothing to show for it (because they probably have some sense of whether they qualify or not), its a different calculation.

The rules and process were far too loose so it consequently resulted in greater migration. The party is over for that and will help to limit it to those who strictly qualify or can make a compelling case that justifies their claim and self-filters from the unqualified or inadmissable applicants who would otherwise be incentivized to make such a gamble

The other point I want to throw out there is that Omega 3 is essential, it cannot be endogenously provisioned, and I'm not sold that ALA sufficiently stands in for EPA and DHA

    Couple thoughts

    • can you make your earlier meals (I guess maybe lunch since you're nauseous in the morning) bigger and have a smaller dinner? (larger meals later at night disrupt sleep and your body is more liable to store them as fat as opposed to during the day when you're usually more active before and after eating so you have a chance to burn it off? Apparently its best to stop eating around 4 hours before bed so however close you can work that it would probably only help things

    • do you feel the need to sweeten most things? Can you get by sticking to things like cream cheese, butter, guacamole, peanut butter, salsa/marinara, stevia or natural mild sweeteners like mixed berries as opposed to concentrated pure sugars like jams/honey/sugar?

    • ever tried unsweetened coconut or almond milk for cereal? I swear coconut (particularly the Vita Coco 1L tetra pack of original coconut milk beverage) is the closest to perfect substitute for milk and it has a decent amount of satisfying fat without all the sugar and other unknowable stuff in milk.

I'll add to this later but those were some initia thoughts. One of the big takeaways is fat is not bad or to be avoided as it satisfies and makes you need to snack less and sugar is generally more for energy to a level few of us actually need outside of the usual addiction to it

I've watched videos with Palestinians lamenting the good old days when they had a job that was either in Israel or with an Israelli firm that paid much better and it makes me really question whether this is about religion or past stuff at all. I wonder if all Palestinians who are offered a better life thru gainful employment and modern peaceful lifestyle with the modern amentities wouldn't warm to the idea of a pluralistic and perhaps closer to 1-state solution altho I also understand where the Israelis are coming from in terms of not wanting the muslim baggage and ongoing concerns that creates.

Religions that create such a conviction that there's another better life you can arbitrarily access if you do violence in your god's name are inherently antithetical to modern life and cohesion so I get that they would be reluctant if it came to that. There would very likely be a non-zero number of civillian deaths and incidents that would immediately be blamed on any unification

A two-state solution? Palestine is objectively less-developed and economically-developed than Israel, I don't think its realistic there's going to be a "river to the sea free of israel" type situation. Not sure whether thats what is actually being advocated for but it also seems like a point that keeps coming up over and again as I read about this.

If Israel had a far more moderate government where the leader wasn't criminally compromised, do you think it would be possible to come up with some good enough good-faith joint effort to relieve some of the tension points and allow for change?

I've read that population-wise, Palestine is over 50% young people/children. Do you think that might be key to a generational refresh that allows for compromise in producing a solution at some point if all the pieces can line up?

I think its fair to ask an objective "what would a free Palestine look like"

I'm interested in what life would be like for folks there.

Young people seem so different when they don't have a physical or emotional gun to their back, I actually entertain the idea that young Palestinians (with aid and world collaboration) could work towards—I dunno, like Pakistan or something. I don't know a lot about all the geopolitics but Pakistan is seperate from India, thats an achievement that seems similar

  • I swear, I get the vibe from my cats that - they're my daughters - one i get the vibe from that she's my old lady (which literally she is but the wife connotation is highly questionable) What is the relationship in the felid mind? I've never gotten the sense that I'm a "master" despite the fact they know when I get annoyed with them or what is forbidden and they mostly come to honor that (turns out nobody or anything likes getting hassled)

EDIT: I'm interested in how a free Palestine would play out in terms of what that would mean for women, gays, children, people of non-muslim religions, in terms of personal freedoms, etc. For the average citizen/denizen what would that look like?

^This is a continuation of my series on emotions and self-knowledge^ > **Anxiety** *Anxiety is the dread over expected harmful events. From an evolutionary perspective, increased anxiety serves to increase vigilance to potential threats in the environment as well as increase the tendency to take proactive actions regarding such possible threats. The body often mobilises itself to meet the perceived threat: Muscles become tense, breathing is faster, and the heart beats more rapidly.*

I've heard very good things about high-EPA/decent DHA fish oil thats molecularly-distilled. This seems to be a frequent recommendation (particularly if you don't eat seafood or fish) in many health circles and I'd like to get everyone's thoughts on best products, practices, etc.

From an evolutionary standpoint, anger serves to mobilize psychological resources in order to address the threat/invasion. Anger is directed at an individual of equal status.* Try to keep it fresh by what is current but its also cool to retrospect

For an example: I had an issue with always being in a food-scarce state, where I basically needed to hit the grocery store everyday buying overpriced under-portioned stuff and spending a fortune to have basically nothing in the cupboards and fridge or being depressed I had no supplies and just ordering food. I broke down and decided I needed to get and start using my Costco membership and that I could have whatever I wanted as long as I put every item down in a spreadsheet type doc and came up with a rough estimate for how many of each I needed each month and factored tax i to the multiplyer so I could adjust and always have the total cost for everything that would be my groceries. But I took it even further and now every subscription, bill, discretionary and vices, and more expensive longer-term items all get roughly budgeted for based on their lifecycle. So an annual subscription I anticipate keeping gets saved for out of each paycheck, something that lasts 2 months gets amortized over 4 paychecks generally. Everything is overbudgeted and real liberal so even if I don't have that expense that month or ever and its out of date, I still end up benefitting by saving for it and now I anticipate slowly transitioning all my monthly subs I cant yet afford annual and paying more for towards once a year with a discount and it not littering my records with the need for monthly entries. Now all my accounts except savings $0 out at the end exactly each month so it will be immediately obvious what the surplus is and what I am able to save, and also leverage that towards further optimizations as the opportunity arises. Its like a complete paradigm shift for me and I think I've stumbled on to my new groove haha. Its also forced me to be realistic and realize I can't save money when I'm not planning for the actual human needs and factors involved. Savings cannot be an the expense of my physical and material well-being, I will not tolerate that long term without sabatoging myself [Knock-on benefits] - budget for expensive bag of catfood per month and cat litter but won't go through nearly that much so that can become an adhoc cat medical insurance/vet visit/medical and supply fund + my emergency medical fund 😅 - can subtly tweak the quantities to allow accumulation of supplies without severe effect or detriment of the general budget. It will almost certainly be covered by other items not requiring replenishment - since larger over-time expenses rarely overlap, can use the savings to apply to pressing needs or unexpected emergencies without ever really having an impact since they will have been covered several times over by redundancies created by savings for other expenses that are similarly ongoing
