Suffering from issues most of lemmy is currently suffering from. Relatively non-niche content still needs a critical mass to support it.
That and the Pac12 collapsing has me not as interested this season. Fuck the Ducks.

I think Le Guins "The Dispossessed" belongs here. Its a dystopian/ utopian comparative about an anarchist planet and a capitalist planet. Highly recommend. I've got a signed copy somewhere.

My NAS just arrived today. I'll have ~42 TB of self hosted storage for 1k.
Google is charging me something ridiculous like, 300 a year for the same.

Honestly, with my raised beds, between compost, seeds and fertilizer I probably lose money compared to buying tomatoes from the store. Home grown garden tomatoes are 10x better quality than grocery store tomatoes.
Bro I been growing edamame. Holy fucking shit. You'll fucking cum.

Hey Selfhosted! I'm shopping around and looking to piece together a home audio system that supports multi room audio. I'm currently looking and testing a set of speakers I got from [AudioEngine](https://audioengine.com/) that seem to be using the [linkplay api](https://github.com/AndersFluur/LinkPlayApi/blob/master/api.md). I'm still piecing together my thinking on this but I'm imagining a system where there is basically a series of mp3/ m3u streams coming off my media server that I can use the audio cast engine to connect to. Alternatively, I think I'll be able to stream directly from my NAS, but I'm not quite sure how/ if any good players exist that will be able to interact with this. I'm still very much in the research phase but have some hardware to play with now. How are you thinking about home audio systems with regards to self hosting? Any lessons learned or recommendations? Any great tools or kit someone should be checking out?

So are we thinking 🤔 this would be more like figure skating? Perhaps power lifting? Maybe 🥋 judo?

Yeah I guess that might work. it's just the effort part and the self selection issue.
I've got some scripts I put together for doing network analysis of yiutube. I'll have to look into some of these programs and see if I could extend them into a personalized content recommendation system. Someday when I finish all my other projects (😂)

What I mean by discovery is the finding of new and interesting content. For example, via YouTube it does track my viewing and it gives me some novelty via playlists. There are also channels that find new music and aggregate it.
I'm always in the hunt for novelty in media and a concern ive had and have experienced with mine own Lemmy instance is that of discovery, or finding new content.
Basically a big part I like about digital music is that I find stuff I never would have known about. If I'm going self hosted, it seems like this would get very much more limited.
Hey, I'm trying to set up my own lemmy instance but I think I'm doing something wrong or don't understand federation. I'm using the elest.io automated lemmy build, and I think the site is up and working. I have admin and all that. But I'm not federated? Or I cant tell if I am? I expected to be able to connect to other sites in the fediverse and to be able to allow them to connect to me. I'm not sure thats working and I'm not sure if I need to change something in the setup of the lemmy instance or if this is something I would do from the admin console. Would any experienced lemmings be willing to help me through this
Hi. I'm using the elest.io automated lemmy thing to start my a WSB specific node. I can't find a specific guide to the federation aspect. Is there an instruction set for how to federate/ get federated? Is this something I can do from the admin console? This seems like something really obvious that I'm just missing.
I'm offically a lemming. Or a lemur. Whichever.
I like lemmings but it might be a bit derogatory. Even with that I still think it's better than 'redditors', which always sounded/looked goofy to me. Any ideas? What do we call Lemmy users? My current vote is for lemmings. I think it's cute.
