"Some folks are born made to wave the flag Hoo, they're red, white and blue"
Welp that sounds good enough to me, I think I'll just stop listening to the lyrics now. These boys sure are patriotic.

Yeah this is what scares me about the MAGA nut jobs. Fox News and Trump have created a monster that they can try to steer but don't fully control. When Fox said that Trump lost the election, the MAGAts fled to News Max and OANN. When Trump even hinted that people should get vaccinated, he got booed and immediately walked it back.
It's the same reason that we now face a government shutdown every few months. They've driven their base so far to the right that they now have no choice but to appease that base or be eaten alive. Once Trump's McDonald's encrusted arteries eventually give out, this madness isn't going to just die with him.

That sounds interesting. I feel like that tiny but of context would probably draw more people to see it. Not sure why they kept it all mysterious.

Any idea on what the movie is actually about? I saw an interview with Aubrey Plaza where they asked her and she gave a very vague answer.

I had a conversation with someone last night after the debate who said "I don't trust Democrats not to take away our right to own guns, which is the cornerstone of all of our other rights. But I hate Trump with a passion. So I think I'm going to sit this one out."
I mean... I guess that's a start? But still crazy to me that people have this idea that electing a Democrat means that their guns will be taken away. Biden is current president and they still have their guns. So kind of a weird argument.

I did watch the debate and my immediate take away was that it was a cordial debate, which is sad that being cordial is now abnormal enough for that to be the first thing that stood out.
But with that being said, after thinking about it longer, I realized that the reason it was so cordial is because the questions asked were sane-washing almost all of Trump's positions. I don't see how the number one question would ever be anything other than:
"Senator Vance, your running mate has been convicted, by a jury of his peers, of 34 felonies. He is current facing indictments for stealing and concealing sensitive classified documents containing information vital to our national defense. He has also been indicted for conspiracy to defraud the United States, along with three additional charges, for his efforts to overthrow our democracy when he lost the 2020 election. He has also been charged with eight felonies in Georgia, including two counts of conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree; again, for his attempts at subverting our democracy to install himself as the unelected ruler of our country. He has publicity stated that he wants to be a dictator and throw his political opponents, as well as journalists and others who criticize him, in jail. The only reason your candidate is on the ballot this November is because the Supreme Court ruled that states do not have the ability to keep insurrectionists off the ballot - and they have also declared that various other crimes your candidate have committed cannot be prosecuted due to an alarming declaration that presidents are mostly above the law.
The question, Senator Vance, is why is your candidate qualified for anything other than wearing an orange jumpsuit in prison?"

Yeah listening to him speak, you'd think he was pro-choice and thought Obamacare was the bee-knees.

I went back to Voyager, which is a shame because I really like Sync and pay for the premium version. But yeah, it's completely unusable right now.

I saw an interesting video a few days ago that touched on this. It proposes that most liberals think of problems and how to solve them. Teenage pregnancy is up? How do we increase sex education and access to contraception?
Where most conservatives think of problems and how to punish the people that cause them. Mostly stemming from the idea that living a just and moral life - like they do - means you won't have those problems, so it's your own fault if you do. Teenage pregnancy is up? Quit being a slut and instead raise this baby that was a result of your own slutty behavior.
I've been looking at things through this lense the past few days and see this way of thinking popping up over and over again.

Hard to say. That study you linked mentions reductions in speed and crashes in the vicinity of the camera, which to me indicates that people are only slowing down because they know a camera is there. I suppose someone would have to do a study to see if speed cameras reduce speeds and crashes in areas where there aren't currently cameras, but have been in the past. Meaning that people are slowing down in areas where they think there might be cameras.

Cross posting this from https://sh.itjust.works/post/25548740 There's an issue with posts not showing as read on newer instances of Lemmy.
I've been using Sync for Lemmy for a year or so, but very recently (within the last day or so) links have stopped showing as read when I click on them and then go back. I tested this with a lemmy.world account and don't have the same problem. I saw a post saying sh.itjust.works was updating to Lemmy v19.5 a few days ago. I'm wondering if maybe it caused a problem or if it's just me having this issue. Thanks
...and it isn't Denver. Has that ever happened before?

Americans are overwhelmingly in favor of reforming the Supreme Court along lines proposed by President Joe Biden, even as approval for the high court is marked by a sharp political divide, according to a new USA TODAY-Ipsos election year poll. A large majority – 76% of Americans – support a binding code of conduct for the Supreme Court, according to the poll.
