I wasted so many years making rice on the stove. The rice cooker has been a game changer, and not just for rice. Mine can do cakes, breads, other grains like quinoa... I don't have many "single use appliances" but the rice cooker has designated countertop space.

Something this "blackout" caused me to notice as an individual is just how much of my time and attention I was giving away for free for a faceless corporation to monetize. I quit Reddit entirely and, while still visiting Lemmy/a few forums, I've noticed my "Doomscrolling" habit is rapidly dying.

I would bet $20 that this time next year Reddit will be 50% or less of their market, and several other alternatives will be growing faster than we’ve ever seen platforms grow.

I fervently hope this prediction comes true, and the internet becomes a little healthier in the process.

Maybe a controversial opinion, but I'm glad they are charging for it. I wish there were a better way to vet who gets to be beta testers, but at least by charging money, they are ensuring only people who care about the technology get to use it.

Maybe I'm jaded, but it seems like drivers, in general, have gotten worse post-pandemic, and I wouldn't trust 90% of them with autonomous driving features in the state it's in.

I'm stuck in that same kind of gaming rut, I think it's because dealing with "being an adult with responsibilities" is a lot more stress than when I first started gaming as a kid. My brain just does not want to learn a new system of rules, and I end up quitting new games halfway through the tutorial.

The couple times I've fought through that feeling, I've found a few new games I really love. So maybe it's a mindset thing. I miss the ease with which I used to lose myself in new passions.
