Maduro already has said he wants oil exploration there. He’s not Chavez. What current plans does the US have to build bases in the region?

It’s not good and the US was just starting to relieve sanctions. Maduro just wants that oil in a biodiversity country. It sucks

The US literally just gave Venezuela sanctions relief…. why blow up any progress in less than a month? Maybe Guyana needs some freedom like Iraq did.

    I can’t defend this whatsoever.

I don’t think it has anything to do with moral reasons but realpolitik. If I was a power broker in Washington I’d say keeping relationships with Arab countries would materially benefit us more than uncritically supporting Israel.

Why wouldn’t you expect to balance its Middle East interests after a point? Wouldn’t you say countries like Saudi Arabia materially benefit the US more than Israel ever will?

Is it true that the US said Israel should stop the blockade of food, water, and fuel? I swore I saw a source for that. I wonder if there’s a point that the US will abandon Israel in fears of losing the rest of the Arab world.

Last time I talked to my dad he said he was sad thinking about old people who were killed and survived the holocaust. Yes very sad but I stopped him by saying Israel uses white phosphorus and kills civilians indiscriminately. I think most normal people can at least see Israel isn’t good. The power players of the world are the ones doing damage control and cheerleading.

CNN said initial US intelligence found Iran was surprised by Hamas’ attack. Then today, the Iranian president and Saudi crown prince talked on the phone for the first time since ties were restored discussing the need to de escalate and end to war crimes in Palestine.

This is something that has been lost. The US does not want Iran getting close with Saudi Arabia so they’re trying desperately to connect them to Hamas’ attacks.

Had a realization yesterday that Israel is significantly more bloodthirsty of a nation than the United States is. It’s not even close. I think the average American can at least recognize mistakes of our history and foreign policy. Even if it isn’t driven by ethics or the call to end imperialism, there’s a decent chunk of the population who believe our exploits abroad is all about the money or resources. Conversations I’ve had with combat vets or current military almost always end with “we’re the bad guys”. I think even the average American can recognize there are a lot of bad cops who abuse their power. I know I’m scraping a the bottom of the barrel but in my experience I can have that conversation with 80% of people.

Outside of the left wing, the average Israeli doesn’t see anything wrong and wants to genocide every single Palestinian. It’s unbelievable how evil the entire nation is.

I got hit with a belt once or twice, a hand maybe once or twice. It wasn’t the worst thing my dad did either. All of his bullying, drinking, and mean words were much worse. It was only until the last 5-8 years we could have a good relationship. Even if you think getting hit by a belt by your dad isn’t bad, it’s indicative of their parenting style which in my experience where the negative feelings come in.

Yeah, I think I can get rid of them in about 5 years. I left them at 20,000 hoping the Supreme Court would give us something. I was going to use my loan payments toward buying a new car. It was kinda crushing when the Supreme Court made their decision.

Forgot to mention, I’m in a long distance relationship for the next year and I’ve begun to enjoy my alone time and independence. I guess the grass looks greener because I feel like a weekend night out with someone seems fun when I’m spending it alone.

  • I have been in a long term relationship with my girlfriend but I keep getting overpowering feelings of wanting to date other people. My girlfriend and I have been together almost 7 years now. We have a great life together and I love her dearly. She’s my best friend who I talk to all the time, we always have so much fun when we do things, we travel, great sex, etc. Recently talk of engagement has been popping up which I’m not ready for even though we’ve been together for so long. Despite that, I’m very happy with our relationship. I do envision spending the rest of my life together and building toward a great future but recently I’ve been experiencing feelings of wanting to date around. I never dated before her. She’s my first partner and only women I’ve had sex with. As I’m getting into my late 20s I feel like I’ve missed out on dating and meeting knew people. Before my girlfriend I never had the confidence to ask girls out, I skipped all of my high school dances, and I had trouble talking to girls in person. I have a lot of regret because of my lack of confidence at that time. Now I’m confident and much better socially. I just want to experience the thrill of dating. This is despite having a great partner who I love dearly. I’ve been trying to stop these feelings of wanting to date others for months but they’re stronger than ever. I know the grass is not always greener on the other side and dating is not easy. It’s also likely I won’t ever meet someone as good as my current partner. But I can’t shake these feelings. I don’t want to be 40 and having regrets when I already have so many. What should I do? What other perspectives can I think of? Sorry for the relationship rant, but this site always gives great advice.

Unless it’s a service animal, I don’t like when dogs are in public buildings. Tired of trying to buy food at the grocery store but having to dodge dogs and avoid stepping over their leashes. This anger is mostly directed at their owners as I’m skittish around dogs I don’t know.

I've been thinking of my grandfather and its a tragedy how men of previous generations were expected to live (1930s-early 1960s).

All of the political, fictional, media, and societal forces in this country fantasizes this generation of men from the era. They were tough, stoic, built skyscrapers, fought and died in wars, dressed in suits, and they did things their own way. I always have an image of Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack in my head of this type of man. Candace Owens' "Bring back manly man" tweet on a photo of Harry Styles in a dress underscores the society's mourning the loss of masculine men. I never met my grandfather but from all the stories I've heard of him he was the typical man of his era. Grew up in the 30s, was a junkman, joined the Army, worked a union trade job, came home from work and read his newspaper. He didn't make dinner (except for grilling steaks with his bare hands). He physically fought my grandma and engaged corporal punishment with my uncles and aunt. My mom says she was scared of him for a long time. He never traveled or did anything with his children. Essentially, he worked and came home and didn't do any domestic activities. You look at photos of him and he looked like a good looking Italian guy in a Martin Scorsese movie. A "man's man". Learning about his bad tendencies and at first its hard to see a tragedy. The tragedy is near the end of his life he expressed regret and remorse. His life under capitalism and patriarchal norms crushed his soul. It was only around his old age and after his retirement when he started to mellow out and become something more. The last time he talked to my uncle he told him "I'm sorry for not being there and talking to you." He loved to visit my mom and dad and my mom said she loved to talk to him even though she was previously scared of him. He traveled to Hawaii the year before he died and he absolutely loved it. When they got back he asked my grandma "when's the next trip?" When he was older, every day he walked their cat on a leash. Even with all of their troubles throughout their marriage, my granparents loved each other. On their last day together they made love, he told my grandma he loved her, and he went to bet on the horses. He also hated some aspects of his society. He hated suits, hated the Army and was dishonorably discharged for refusing an order, and he hated Reagan and trickle down economics. Underneath his manly exterior there was something more there and his remorse at not being a better person showed toward the end of his life. It was only after he wasn't being crushed by a manual labor job and living just with my grandma was he able to start to explore the world and open up to his kids. So when I think of him now I see him as a victim of Capitalism and patriarchal norms of our society. I don't know, this is kinda a rough draft of my thoughts about someone I never met but wish I could have.

I still feel like a guy but I realized I wouldn’t mind being referred to as “they” as well. Is there a name for this?

I feel like a guy. I like to do “manly” stuff. Boxing, weightlifting, sports, etc. However, the concept of “being a man” sounds kinda far fetched to me. Like it’s an abstract concept that is impossible to achieve. Is a man supposed to be stoic or brash? Dress up in a tie and suit or wear carhartt and have a beard? Then they’re are guys who dress up or wear makeup. Gender related expressions are so constructed that I realized while I feel like a guy I wouldn’t mind if someone referred to me as they. I want to be able to paint my nails without feeling embarrassed but then go to a boxing gym and spar. I don’t know if it’s a political rejection of masculinity but just wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.
