Yes, this is an interesting story. IIRC one gay bar already closed due to pressure from authorities to property owner. The owner decided to stop renting property to the bar.

Dread is like Reddit/Lemmy and it lives in Tor only. Google it, you ll find a Wikipedia page.

I don't think it's contradictory.
Keeping same-sex marriage outlawed is just like any other form of governmental control. The same as guns restrictions, taxes, mandatory schooling etc.
You may argue that same-sex marriage is an essential human right etc. But this is your values, many other people don't share them. Brave CEO may share value of digital privacy and not share value of same-sex marriage.
I won't continue this discussion further.

dependend on Google Addon store
I think that's 50% true. There are multiple alternative places to host addons:
- Microsoft Edge Store (or smth like that from Microsoft)
- add0n.com and other similar "indie" places (but I'm not sure they provide updates)
These alternative places are not popular so Google Addon store is an effective monopoly. But I think it's not impossible to challenge that.

Is it worth it? I think there are many solutions for federated blogging.
I thinks it's better to focus on lemmy itself as a reddit alternative as it's the only one (or almost) in the scene.

How on Earth? Is their business model sustainable?

Okay, Mozilla financially depends on Google. Yes, that's pretty sad. But I think it's too soon to quit on them. They're trying to make privacy ecosystem and that might help them become independent.
As for now, even though Mozilla is financed by Google, did the dependence really influenced Mozilla's decisions?

Btw I read somewhere that the main dev wants to provide email in future. Not sure that this is really in plans.

Does email really monopolized by Google? I mean there are many other feature-rich email providers out there. There are even privacy-conscious like Proton Mail.
I recently discovered that I can hide votes for all posts and comments (there is a setting). And this makes life a bit easier, I think. My judgement comes more from content itself, not from votes.

I fucking hate this project. I know that this project gives no new data. But this project makes it a lot easier for most folks to harm Elon. That's how the scale works. If we increase cigarette prices of course many people will still smoke, but the number will decrease.
It's a privacy-hate project. You may hate Elon all you want but he has the right to private life as all of us do.

But is it sustainable... I mean can't google just break it easily?

Do you receive donations? If no, consider it. It will be simpler to buy what's needed (vps, for example) yourselves.

This would be cool but I don't think it's a priority. There are much more needed features not implemented yet.

people don’t want to have to make hundreds of accounts on hundreds of different servers, which is why most people don’t self-host or collaborate that way
Yeah, totally understandable.

Maybe they mistreated you by deleting your project, idk. If that's the case, it's not good, but Codeberg is still better than Github freedom-wise.

Why did they remove it? Just because it's torrent?
Btw what is this project? Can you share a link?

Maybe self-hosted Gitlab then? I don't know if it has all features you need though.
I checked instances with most users here: https://fedidb.org/network And I concluded that TILvids is the most decent instance if you consider userbase and quality videos/channels. At least for english-speaking folks. Am I right? Do you know other good active instances?
This sub has mandarin in description. So my question in title.
