Lol as an American I feel uncomfortable putting in more than 2 consecutive DAYS in a row and I'm salaried, not a service worker or anything. I can't even imagine having 2 weeks off. I've only been able to manage that once in my adult life during one of my transitions to a new company.

It fluctuates based on workload, but I find myself working anywhere from 4-5 hours a day to basically nonstop during my workday (9 hrs). I do think most people are really only capable of doing "good" work, meaning being at their most productive, for about 3 hours a day though. The rest of the time is spent slogging through and putting out mediocre work, just to get it done.

What is your answer to a scenario in which a woman using birth control properly in a loving monogamous relationship becomes pregnant when neither party wants a child? The most common form of birth control (the pill), when taken properly only has a 97% effective rate. Pair that with a second form of birth control (i.e. the pullout method) and it will go up but it will never be 100% effective.

You're not wrong, but as someone who has mostly adapted to the fediverse in the last 2 weeks after 15 years on Reddit, I remember a time when reddit was considered too complicated for the "casual" user. Lemmy is in its infancy right now and I think if one is the kind of person who is an early adopter, it will be very appealing to be in the first stages of the journey. I found my early years on Reddit to be much more rewarding and filled with joy than my later years because it felt more niche and close-knit in a way.

Also, subreddits are called communities here and you should join as many as are of interest! Just like a user could create multiple competing subreddits (looking at you /r/meirl, /r/me_irl, /r/2meirl4meirl), the good ones will take off and others may die off, or might just add additional content to the pool, which is a good thing.

Lemmy.world has not yet upgraded to the new update that was pushed a couple of days ago because they are waiting on the captcha support coming in the next update (which should be soon). Once lemmy.world upgrades to the most recent version of lemmy (I think 2.8.1?), all the posts will sync again. Right now we are not syncing.

  • Why YSK: making the most of the fediverse means aggregating content from as many places as possible, but it's not an intuitive process right now, especially for those using apps like Jerboa or Mlem. I have been seeing some comments from people struggling to subscribe to kbin magazines from Lemmy so here's a step-by-step of how I've been doing it: 1. Note the name of the kbin magazine you want to subscribe to (example: kbin.social/m/books) 2. Log into your Lemmy instance from a browser 3. The Lemmy instance you are registered with will be the first part of the URL and the kbin community will be the second part. Example: I'm registered with lemmy.world so to register with the kbin Books magazine I would type https://lemmy.world/c/books@kbin.social 4. From there, just hit subscribe and it will start showing up anywhere you're logged into your Lemmy instance (I use Jerboa). Hopefully this helps spread the word!

For anyone struggling to figure out how to subscribe to kbin communities from a lemmy instance, this comment string helped me out. The Lemmy instance you are registered with will be the first part of the URL and the kbin community will be the second part. For example, I'm registered with Lemmy.world so to register with the kbin Books community I typed into my browser https://Lemmy.world/c/books@kbin.social

From there, just hit subscribe and it will start showing up anywhere you're logged into your Lemmy instance (I use Jerboa).

Thanks for compiling all of this. I'm trying to stay off of reddit completely so as to not add traffic to the site so it's nice to get these snapshots of what's going on there. I'll be staying on Lemmy regardless of the reddit outcome, but part of me hopes for it's downfall so some of my more niche communities will start migrating over here.
