I knew we were in trouble when that damn... that egg commercial. That guy. I knew that was... the government's take on drugs, you know, were fucked. Believe me. "Here's your brain."

I've seen a lot of weird shit on drugs. I've never ever ever EVER EVER looked at an egg and thought it was a fuckin' brain. Not once. Alright? I have seen UFOs split the sky like a sheet, but I have never, ever, ever looked at an egg and thought it was a fuckin' brain... NOT ONCE. I have had seven balls of light come off of a UFO, lead me onto their ship, explain to me -telepathically - that we are all one and there is no such thing as death, but I have never ever ever ever looked at an egg... and thought it was a fuckin' brain.

Now... Maybe I wasn't getting good shit.

It's only been "irrelevant" because of the poor reception to Sims 4. The Sims was the first great "life sim" game, and the 3rd installment added a crazy amount of content. That's all we wanted. More stuff to decorate with and places for our Sims to explore. Nah, Sims 4 took away the variety and added paywalls and multiplayer and was just generally a poor experience.

For anyone holding out hope for #5, this is on par with Blizzard announcing their smartphone diablo game. EA killed this franchise, and yeah I'm a little sad about it.

As another longtime Vi user - I had a hell of a time & wound up switching back lol

I think for a lot of folks Helix would be intuitive. Vi has her hooks in me, though.

The term remained in use as a technical ethnic term in anthropological and historiographical literature into the late 1980s.

It's hard to fault him there in the early 1900s when it was an "accepted" scientific term until nearly a century later. Thank you for sharing that link 'cause that's a new one to me!

The thing is - there is no evidence of sexual misconduct. He's been investigated by just about everyone from local cops to the FBI since the early 90s, and despite the outcry there's never been evidence. Considering how our justice system dealt with another high-profile figure's history of sexual abuse, I have to believe something concrete would've turned up by now.

Inappropriate? Absolutely. Illegal? Pedophilia? Doubtful. I mean, provided we genuinely believe in "Innocent until proven guilty" ideal...

"Covenant" and "Prometheus" would've been killer movies to kick off a new IP.

I might be the old man shouting at clouds, but I've been turned off to all franchise "reboots". Just sick of rehashes and revisits and the cute little "winks" these movies do to the previous installments. Have an original thought, damn.

    Notes while I'm watching:

    1. The "vibe" is different - in my head I translated this to "he likes the GUI more"
    2. Minetest has zero "story" / progression (so no Ender Dragon to gear up for & fight) - it's purely a sandbox experience.
    3. better performance, apparently runs on potato laptops pretty well
    4. Mods are built-in, and don't require tools like Forge or whatever to tweak a jar file ⬅️ THIS is cool!
    5. Customization via the Settings menu

The "built-in support for mods" caught my eye. That's pretty slick, and a headache with MC.

tl;dr - it runs on just about everything, and focuses on giving the player an easy-to-mod "sandbox" to play in.

  • I'm confident the answer to the initial question is "yes", but in my little corner of the world I've never met a sculptor - no students, no teachers, no amateurs or professionals - and I don't recall hearing about significant sculptures being erected anywhere in the last few decades. Sculpting fascinates me, but I'm totally ignorant of how it works. If you’re a sculptor - * when/how did you start? Do you start with clay and pottery? * How do you "practice"? Play-doh? Gotta imagine it's different based on your preferred medium? * do artists still use marble? Seems like it'd be insanely expensive & one mistake screws the whole thing up

Hi all, a friend convinced me to give FFXIV a try, and I've just made myself a Conjurer character. I'm barely 5-10 minutes in and damn this game's pretty. Also pleasantly surprised by how solid the controller support is so far. Curious if there are any pitfalls I should avoid, or if any of you seasoned players have advice for someone who's just starting out. * Currently on the free trial. Does the subscription ever go on sale? I don't doubt its value, but ~$150 USD / year is steep for any game (imo). * Are the classes/races decently balanced? I've played other MMOs where the game's just not viable with certain classes. * I saw a menu option for macros, and I'd assume that's keyboard-only? Are there any other players using just a controller, or does that become a hinderance at some point?

Ahoy, mateys I've seen some concert footage on YouTube that's been upscaled via "AI", and some of the examples look incredible. Is it possible to upscale the video content I've acquired? I have a few series that look to have been recorded on VHS tapes crammed with dirt. Opinions & ideation are welcome. Mostly curious whether it's feasible.

Recent versions of Vim include a built-in [auto-complete](https://linuxhandbook.com/vim-auto-complete/) feature, and of course there are a half-billion other auto-complete plugins available through GitHub. What's your setup? Plugins, or vanilla? Suggested tweaks?

"Manifesto" has no plot, and the only thing tying the ~dozen scenes together is Cate Blanchett. Her monologues range from common hippie platitudes to batshit insanery, and she moves deftly between the dozen starkly different characters. There's some beautiful cinematography, but the show is stolen by Blanchett's incredible performances. Highly recommended for folks that like "artsy" movies with no plot, or anyone who needs 90 minutes of solid Cate Blanchett.

~45 minutes in. This brief little moment with Leatherface might be my favorite scene in the movie. The way he lumbers to the window, glances anxiously outside, and puts his head in his hands... without a word we see a glimpse of his humanity. Is Leatherface a psychotic murderer, taking joy in killing these teens? Or is he the homemaker, protecting his family's property from these strangers who barged in? What's *actually* going on in his head? Love this flick.
