I felt the same way about the Bobiverse books, they read so easily and so quickly! Same with the Murderbot books, actually. I think Artificial Condition was my favorite so far. 'Art' was such a great addition to the story overall.

I just finished the 4th and last available book in the Bobiverse series Heaven's River. This one is quite a bit different as it focuses more on diverging/drifting personality differences of the replicants. I'd still recommend it though, it feels like a natural progression from where the story began.

I also read through The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu (translated). This one was very different than your typical sci-fi. Very political, conspiratorial, and at times very dry. In the end I very much enjoyed the story, but it felt like 2 disparate plot lines that didn't really coalesce. It was also the second book I've read in the last month that didn't resolve any of the main story conflict in the first book and requires reading the next book to get closure... Not a fan of that sort of ending.

  • McBinary McBinary Now 100%

Agreed, stepping down is a bit heavy handed. There are a lot of moving parts, it's okay to take time for your self and let others take up the reigns temporarily if you need to. I've seen quite a lot of merges on the core recently - so it's obvious things are moving in the right direction.

This one is quite a bit different as it focuses more on the personality of the main character and forces some self-reflection on 'him' and his clones. I'm finding it harder to finish than the last few - but still entertaining.

I also finished Exit Strategy by Martha Wells. These books are just really fast and fun. I can't recommend the Murderbot series enough.

It shouldn't be called ADHD; it should be called restless brain syndrome.
  • McBinary McBinary Now 83%

Not really, though. Rigid structure helps with ADHD, but only when someone else is enforcing the structure. Prepubescent kids with ADHD aren't typically capable of maintaining their own structure. They aren't neurotypical, it's more than distraction and energy, they have a functioning issue. They can't tune out all the stimulus that normal brains do, and because of it they miss a lot of social cues that help with development.

My son has ADHD and no amount of reorienting our family environment would help him - he could (and has) literally be in a bare concrete room with nothing but his thoughts and get distracted and slam his hands together making exploding/punching sounds for hours, where a typical kid would get bored in seconds.

I've been out of town for the last 4 days, so I didn't get much reading in. I did finish reading All These Worlds by Dennis Taylor however. I've also read about 50% through the 4th and final book in the series Heaven's River. This one is quite a bit different as it focuses more on the personality of the main character and forces some self-reflection on 'him' and his clones.

I was also able to finish listening to:
[Audio] The Restaurant at the End of the Universe by Douglas Adams, narrated by Martin Freeman. It ended so abruptly, and didn't really seem to have an overall plot, it just sort of meandered until the auther was like 'Alright, I'mma head out'... I'm not sure I liked this one, honestly. There was a lot of abruptly stopping the story progression to examine some random topic in detail.

I finished For We Are Many by Dennis Taylor - and about halfway through All These Worlds by Dennis Taylor. This is the third book in the series, and third I'm reading in 3 weeks - they are so much fun. The most enjoyable reads I've been through in a while!

I also just added Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons to my kindle today. I'm really hoping for some closure from this book. I was really put-off by the complete lack of any resolution in the last book - just one big lead up.

[Audio] The Restaurant at the End of the Universe by Douglas Adams, narrated by Martin Freeman. I've read Hitchhikers Guide several times but have never continued the series. I'm not sure why, but I'm having a bit of trouble focusing on this audiobook. Maybe because it seem to be a lot of random explanations about unnecessary things...

    This week:

I just finished For We Are Many by Dennis Taylor - and about to start on All These Worlds by Dennis Taylor. This is the third book in the series, and third I'm reading in 3 weeks - they are so much fun. The most enjoyable reads I've been through in a while!

[Audio] The Restaurant at the End of the Universe by Douglas Adams, narrated by Martin Freeman. I've read Hitchhikers Guide several times but have never continued the series.

Reposting last week, cause I'm not sure if that thread is messed up or not...

I finished Abaddon's Gate by James Corey yesterday. I still maintain the TV show is better than the books, but this is the first place I've seen divergence from the main story. I don't recall seeing Samara or Pa in the TV show, but they played a pretty big part in this book. I think Camina Drummer was introduced in the TV show in place of Pa, and there was a lot of overlap of Bull's story that they gave to Camina in the show. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Camina is one of my favorite characters, but a lot of her badassery was tacked on and is attributed to other characters in the book. Ashford though, they made him likable in the TV show, and I will never forgive book version. :|

I finished Rogue Protocol by Martha Wells earlier this week. Quick read, It's book 3 in the Murderbot series. All of them have been fun so far. I'm really enjoying seeing "Consultant Wren" start to connect with others.

[Audio] I also listened to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams; read by Stephen Fry. I've read this book a couple of times over the years, and was interested in hearing Stephen Fry narrate it. I was not disappointed. :)

I started, and finished, We Are Legion (We are Bob) by Dennis E. Taylor last night. First off, "WOW!" This one was a lot of fun. I would recommend this one to anyone who enjoys sci-fi with a sense of humor. Lots of nerdy fandom references and jokes for those of us who grew up on sci-fi TV/Movies and live in a constant state of regurgitating pop culture references.

    Periodic Kbin Updates

Is there any chance that we can get a weekly/biweekly, or periodic, update on what is new with kbin? [@ernest](https://kbin.social/u/ernest) has done a couple in the past. I doubt I would be the only one interested in hearing what is new or what is coming down the pipe more on a regular basis. I'm aware that I can look at the [codeberg](https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/pulls) and see what is being worked on, but I'm not quite as dev saavy as a lot of you are and really appreciate some plain spoken explainers sometimes. If not, that's cool too. I just thought it might help keep people involved and retain users if we could see a list of exciting new additions, updates, and things to look forward to.

Can I just rant a little to you all? I've tried numerous times to help people from reddit set up an account and get started on Kbin (and lemmy), but 4 out of 5 times people can't seem to grasp the concept of registering an account and starting to use this platform. Even breaking it down into 2 steps, with direct links... They get angry, and then ragequit their attempt in a huff saying how it's too fucking complicated and it will never take off because it's so hard. Ok, I get that the fediverse is complicated if you *think deeply* about all the interconnectivity and federation etc, but there is no reason you even *have* to think about any of it to create an account and get started. Like, at all. It reminds me so much of my 70/y old mother-in-law not immediately knowing how to work a tv remote and shoving it at me after 1.5 seconds saying "here, I can't figure this out". When in reality all she had to do was press the fucking *big red button...* I'm just so frustrated with people's complete lack of ability to help themselves.

I really don't understand the hate this show got. I really enjoyed it! A unique concept, story driven - season long plot arcs, great acting, incredible visuals, and fantastic characters. Sure there was some goofy stuff in there too, but star trek *always* has goofy shit. I really felt like this was going to be a turning point of bringing star trek out of the 'everything-contained-in-an-episode' nonsense, and into the golden age of storytelling. What did you think about it?
