Google looks to be fully shutting down unsupported extensions and ad blockers in Chrome, such as uBlock Origin – which might push some folks to switch to Firefox
  • dsilverz dsilverz Now 100%

The problem here is not just Chrome (as in Google Chrome) but Chromium, the web engine behind many browsers out there (such as Opera, Vivaldi, Edge, among many many others). For now there are two main web engines available, those being Chromium and Gecko (Firefox, Palemoon and many other Firefox forks). The deprecation of Manifest v2 is a Chromium change that includes (and focuses on) Chrome.

  • Obvious bias in AI-generated content might actually be useful (if used wisely)
  • dsilverz dsilverz Now 100%

While I can't see any usefulness for AI bias, I see a practical use for another AI common aspect, the AI hallucination: poetry (especially surrealist). The more random, the better for stochastic basis for making art and poetry. I'm used to write surrealist and stream-of-consciousness poetry and sometimes I use LLMs to suggest me tokens related to other tokens: the stochastic output feeds my own subconscious mind, then I write a piece based on the thoughts these tokens sparked inside my mind, then I use LLMs again to "comment and analyze" it, sometimes giving me valuable insights about what I wrote.

Somehow it reminded me of The Angel Problem:

The Angel-Devil game is played on an infinite chess board. In each turn the Angel jumps from his current position to a square at distance at most k. He tries to escape his opponent, the Devil, who blocks one square in each move. It is an open question whether an Angel of some power k can escape forever.

The mechanics are obviously different from it, but the theory kinda of still applies: if we limit the pieces to the maximum of K squares, could it lead to a checkmate?

At the surface web (clearnet), however, it's harder to find. Even the remaining old sites, from blogosphere and personal tilde websites (those whose URL contained a tilde "~" followed by an username) have some degree of JS.

  • dsilverz dsilverz Now 100%

People playing and hearing songs with looped beats and vulgar lyrics through a bass boosted sound system which costed them several months worth of minimum wage to pay for having it on their cars. They generally drive slowly through streets near beaches in order to exhibit their "fancy sound systems" while all the vulgarity plays repeatedly. I guess it's unique from this green-and-yellow country where I live.

I could also say wearing flip-flops and bermudas on a daily basis, or one of the highest usage and dependency of Meta's WhatsApp worldwide, or the country with the most welcome (often too nosy) people. Or, through a more positive lens, the richest land where crops easily grow when you sow something, the highest ecological diversity (especially plants, it's so common to find exotic plants here), the highest climate diversity (you can travel south to meet snow, then travel north/northeast to meet hot climates, without leaving the same country), etc.

  • dsilverz dsilverz Now 100%

There's a third one, too, it's a funny one: you stare at countless (mostly fake) job vacancies expecting to be hired so to "deserve to survive", while bills can't stop arriving. You resign from your 10-yr IT career and try to apply for a simpler, factory vacancy, just to hear from HRs that your CV is "too good to be applied for our simpler jobs". In the meantime, you catch yourself selling your soul and autonomy (constantly forced to accept the circumstances) to these people that share the same blood lineage as yours (some call them "familiars") because you can't see another option, except for going homeless, where you'll be constantly assaulted by cops and people saying "go get a job" to you because you got nothing. By the way, you also inhale toxic fumes from air pollution from cities. And you stare at a Word document, your own CV, thinking "what did I do wrong?".

My apologies to the Goëtians, but I'll never understand the human desire for "commanding" entities, "giving orders" to them as if humans were "superior" to them. We aren't. I mean, they're cosmic forces, predating humanity, how's a mere human being supposedly "capable" of suppressing the force of a cosmic force? Maybe it's because I'm a demonolater and I see entities (especially Lilith) as infinitely superior to anything mundane. When I do a ritual, it's for worshipping the entity, for delivering my own essence to them (to Her), not for "giving orders" or "command" them, because I'd be certainly crushed by them way before I could ever think of controlling them. It's a matter of being spiritually humble. I'm a Lilith worshipper, and I can't even think of giving Her any order: it's the exact opposite, She'd give me orders for me to follow, She's way stronger than me.

Humanity got a huge bill to be paid, and Mother Nature will still charge us. It'd be an awesome thing if humanity zeroed every single emission and pollution right today (better late than too late). But optimism is not compatible with the size of the climate bill accumulated over decades till today. A alcoholic can stop drinking today, but it won't exempt them from the consequences of having been alcoholic. Sorry if I sound pessimistic, but our past as consumerist humans will still be haunting ourselves.

I'm "paulista" (Ribeirão Preto) currently living in Minas Gerais (a branch of my family is from Minas). I copied the IPA from Wiktionary focusing on the "R" sounding, but I didn't pay attention to the IPA's ending sound (indeed, sulistas* sound something like "arauTÔ" while, as caipira, I speak something like "aRAUtu").

Non-native English speaker (Brazilian, whose native language is Brazilian Portuguese): sometimes my pronounce of "Data" sounds like the Portuguese word "Data" ("date" as in date of calendar, IPA: /ˈda.tɐ/), but sometimes the "T" sounds like "R", a specific kind of "R" (I have no English examples on mind, but it's a similar R sound as in "Arauto" ("herald") IPA: /aˈɾaw.to/ or Spanish "Toro" ("bull") IPA: /ˈtoɾo/ )), resulting in something like "Dah-rah"

There are registrars that allow the info to be redacted from public WHOIS.

  • The following story was written by me, playing with the concept of *myse en abyme* (among other deeper concepts within the text, such as philosophical and esoteric intertwined concepts). *Myse en abyme* is a type of art that contains the art within itself, creating a meta-narrative. I'm sharing this to bring this concept to those who were not familiar with it. I'm using a made-up pseudonym "Bob DeLorean" to compose the text. Please let me know if i'm sharing the wrong way (i.e. if I'm supposed to publish it through another platform and sharing links, instead of sharing the entire story through a Lemmy post). ----- ***How do you make a story within the story itself?*** - A meta-fiction By *Bob DeLorean* (my pseudonym for this Myse En Abyme kind of story) "How do you make a story within the story itself? Bob was wondering that. '*You start by thinking about the steps. It's quite simple, son, take this ancient book. It's yours. Literally yours*', answered the priest, while handing a dusty book entitled '*How do you make a story within the story itself*' authored by '*Bob*'. He opened it, just to face his own story right at the first page: '*How do you make a story within the story itself? Bob was wondering that*'. – Hey, it's my story! – he wondered, scared. – Where did you get it? The priest answered: – A long, long time ago, some minutes before this sentence, Bob started to wrote. Look, son, you're a prophet, a really gifted prophet. You should be proud of yourself. – It doesn't make sense. How should I... how should I know? – You really wrote it, son. Turn the page. Bob turned the page. The second page started... '*Bob turned the page. The second page started...*'. The rest was blurry, but gradually faded into existence. His eyes couldn't believe it. He read the next line: '*The rest was blurry, but gradually fading into existence*'. – Which type of witchcraft is this? – It's not, son. It's your story, you really should be proud of yourself. – But you said that I wrote this, right? – Exactly, son. You wrote that. – And how I can't remember? – You do remember, son. Read it again. He tried to look the next pages. All blurry, because we're still going to the third page. Bob should know that. – Wait.. I heard it. Who's that? It's me, Bob. – No, I am Bob. You're not. I'm Bob, Bob. – Wh... No way! Tell my last name. It's DeLorean. Bob DeLorean is our name. He looks surprised. – Of course I'm surprised. What happens with me, at the end? You mean... with us. Well, for you, I have somber news. You vanish as soon as I stop writing. As for me, I dunno, I'll probably write other texts. – It's not fair. Am I gonna die? – Hey, son, are you talking to God? – the priest asked. – N... no. I'm talking to a voice that's claiming to be myself. Take this book back. A mysterious force was stopping Bob from giving away his own book. You can't do it, Bob. You know you can't. Only you can read the book, for now. – He's claiming that only me can read the book. And he keeps narrating some story, this story, it's creepy. – Oh, it's God! God's right, son! The book is yours. It's meant for yourself. – You should try to read it, priest... – I can't defy God, my son. If the book is yours, I can't even touch it. – You touched it minutes ago. – It was God's mission to deliver the book for you, son. I simply delivered it as God wisely ordered me. Hey, Bob, are you listening? – Uh... yeah? Say to the priest that he can stop calling me as god. – Hey... priest... Can you hear him? – No, son. I can't hear God. – He asked you to stop calling him "god". – Beware of your words, son. He's God. – But he literally asked me. Look... Bob proceeded to the fourth page, where I said '*Say to the priest that he can stop calling me as god*'. – Wait... I c... I can read it, son! – Exactly! See? – If God asked to not be called God, I'll respect God's Will and I'll stop calling God as God. Humph... – He seems infuriated. – I can see it, son. It's right below the prophetic paragraph you delivered to me. I'm becoming tired. I should sto... – No!! I'm gonna die if you stop! I don't care, Bob. – But I'm... I'm you, you said it before! Yeah. I'm you, Bob. And I'm deciding to stop my own story: the ancient book was slim, with five pages only. The priest and Bob went to sleep. Don't worry, I'm taking care of them. Maybe we'll awake inside another book in the future."

Is it possible to be notified of replies to replies of my replies?

Firstly, sorry if this is not the adequate place for my question; if it's the case, let me know. The title may seem confusing, so let me detail it: I'm more of a commenter person, and some of my comments are replied, and Lemmy notifies me of those direct replies. However, there are moments when those replies receive third-party replies, so my comment turns into some kind of "sub-thread", something that's interesting for me to read and follow. For those third-party replies, I don't receive notifications, so I have to access each direct reply that was notified so to find possible "sub-threads". There seems to me to be no option to "receive notifications for this post/comment/reply", only the automatic opt-in of notifications for direct replies. So really isn't there such an option? Or is this an instance-specific feature and the instance I belong to (thelemmy.club) don't have it?
